What Can Magento Maintenance Services Include?

Magento is self-hosted and complex. Maintenance spans the application, server context, dependencies and the customer path.

1. Version Patching and Upgrades

We help manage security patches and version updates. Routine patching belongs in maintenance; a major version upgrade is scoped as a project with staging and validation.

2. Composer and Dependency Updates

Magento depends on a managed set of packages. We review composer updates and dependency changes in a controlled way so the store is not broken by a bad dependency.

3. Performance Tuning

Performance work can include cache, indexing, configuration and code review. Deep profiling or rebuilds may need a separate project scope.

Website Speed Optimization →

4. Security Hardening

Security care can include patching, configuration review, basic checks and escalation when suspicious activity appears. No maintenance service can promise a store will never be attacked.

Website Security Services →

5. Backup and Recovery Checks

We check backup jobs, status and visible failures within the selected service scope, and flag recovery risks that need further work. Offsite copies can keep a recovery copy accessible when the server has a problem.

6. Monitoring and Controlled Changes

Monitoring helps you see downtime, errors and performance changes earlier. A maintenance plan may include controlled changes to existing features, configuration and small fixes.

Not Every Magento Update Is the Same Kind of Work

"Can you update my Magento store?" describes three different jobs depending on the version you are on. We place your store in one of these three layers before quoting anything.

Layer 1 — Security Patches

Adobe publishes isolated security fixes on a monthly cycle and aggregated patches in May and November. Applying a patch inside a version line that is still supported is routine maintenance: read the bulletin, check the extension list, apply on staging, verify the order path, then deploy.

This layer sits inside an ongoing maintenance plan.

Layer 2 — Moving to a New 2.4.x Line

Stepping from one 2.4.x line to another is rarely just a patch. It usually brings a new PHP requirement, Composer and dependency changes, and extension compatibility checks. It needs a staging store, a test pass over checkout and account flows, and a rollback point.

We scope this as a project, quoted before work starts.

Layer 3 — Out of Support

Magento 1 has received no security fixes since June 2020. The 2.4.4 and 2.4.5 lines are past their support windows, and 2.4.6 reached the end of standard support in August 2026. A store on one of these runs unpatched, usually on top of an unsupported PHP line — two unpatched layers, not one.

This is a migration decision, not a maintenance one.

What we do not do: we cannot bring an out-of-support version back into support. If you are on Magento 1 or an expired 2.4.x line, the honest answer is to compare a migration against staying as you are — and we will say so if a lighter platform fits your catalog better. No maintenance plan can promise that a store running unpatched software stays safe.

Ecommerce Migration →

Why a Magento Store Slows Down Over Time

Speed is the most common reason people search for Magento help. A store rarely slows down on its own — something accumulated.

1. A Cache or Indexer That Stopped Working

Magento depends on caches and indexers. An indexer stuck in processing, a full reindex left over from a failed cron job, or an invalidated cache can slow a store within a single day, with nothing on the page to warn you.

2. Catalog and Image Weight

A growing catalog and product images uploaded at full resolution both cost load time on every page view. Image and catalog work is often the cheapest real gain available in a store.

3. Extensions That Accumulate

Modules installed, replaced or quietly abandoned over the years keep running code on every request. Reviewing what is still in use belongs in routine care, not a rebuild.

4. An Outdated PHP or OpCache Setup

A Magento store's speed is capped by the PHP version and the cache configuration underneath it. Running an old PHP line limits performance and support at the same time.

5. Database Growth

Quote, log and report tables grow with years of admin activity. Left alone, they add query time to every page in the store, including the ones that matter most.

6. Front-End Theme Weight

The legacy Luma theme loads more front-end JavaScript than modern alternatives. Changing the theme is a front-end rebuild with its own cost — we flag it as a project and never fold it quietly into a plan.

What we do not promise: a load-time figure. The result depends on your catalog, hosting and integrations rather than on any single change, so we do not publish numbers we cannot stand behind for every store. Some speed work fits inside a maintenance plan; a deep performance rebuild is quoted as a separate project. Website Speed Optimization →

Why a Magento Store Needs Specialist Maintenance

Magento is a high-value target and a complex system. Generalist care misses the details that keep it stable.

Version Complexity

Each version has its own upgrade path and risks. Maintenance should follow the correct sequence, not guess.

Security Exposure

High-revenue stores attract attacks. Patches and hardening must be applied on time and verified.

Performance Sensitivity

Catalog size, caching and indexing affect speed. Small regressions can hurt conversion.

Custom Code Risk

Modules and customizations can conflict on update. Changes need staging and review.

Infrastructure Dependence

Magento depends on server, database and queue services. Maintenance should understand the full stack.

Business Continuity

Downtime is direct lost revenue. Recovery readiness matters more than for a brochure site.

Checkout and Order Path

A payment, tax or shipping step can stop completing with nothing on screen to warn you. On a store you notice the order volume drop before you notice the cause.

Adobe’s Patch Cycle and Support Windows

Magento (Adobe Commerce and Magento Open Source 2.4.x) is patched on Adobe’s schedule, not yours. The maintenance decision is which patch lands when, and how far behind your store is.

Two kinds of patch

  • Adobe publishes releases on a quarterly cadence, split into security patches and quality patches
  • Security patches should not wait for a maintenance window; quality patches can be planned
  • Each release also raises the PHP version floor the store must run on

Published support windows

  • 2.4.9 — supported to May 31, 2029
  • 2.4.8 — to May 31, 2028; 2.4.7 — to May 31, 2027
  • 2.4.6 reached the end of standard support on August 11, 2026, and 2.4.5 and earlier are past it
  • Magento 1 has received no security patches since June 2020
  • PHP 8.1 reached end of life on December 31, 2025, so a store still on it runs on an unsupported interpreter

Adobe publishes these dates; we do not. A store on an unsupported version is not broken — it simply stops receiving fixes, which is a different and slower kind of risk.

Magento-Specific Risks and Where Your Hours Go

A Magento patch is rarely just a file swap. The store has indexers, a job queue, a composer dependency tree and a module ecosystem that all react to it.

Indexers and cron after a patch

Order and price indexing stalls, cron backs up, and the storefront starts showing stale prices or missing categories.

Extension incompatibility

A module was written for an earlier 2.4.x release. The patch is fine; the module is not, and the failure shows up in checkout.

Composer dependency conflicts

The patch needs a dependency the store already pins elsewhere, so the update stops half-applied and leaves an inconsistent state.

Platform work and your included hours

The monthly fee covers defined maintenance within your plan’s included hours. The tasks below are the ones that come up specifically on Magento.

Typically inside your included hours

  • Applying a security patch on staging and verifying the store
  • Indexer, cron and cache checks after a change
  • Module compatibility review before a patch
  • Backup and restore verification

Usually a separate scope

  • An upgrade project to a new 2.4.x line
  • Custom module development
  • Full reindex and performance rebuild at scale
  • Migration between Magento editions or away from the platform

These are release and support facts published by the platform vendor, not commitments from us. Scope is confirmed in your plan before work starts, and anything outside it is quoted separately first.

Know What Ongoing Magento Maintenance Covers

A good maintenance service sets clear boundaries. This protects the store and keeps requests moving.

Usually Part of Ongoing Maintenance

  • Security patching and version updates
  • Composer and dependency review
  • Backup and recovery checks
  • Monitoring review
  • Basic performance tuning
  • Controlled changes and small fixes
  • Issue intake and troubleshooting
  • Maintenance records and reports

Usually Needs a Separate Scope

  • Major version upgrade project
  • New custom modules or features
  • Replatforming or architecture rebuild
  • Deep performance rewrite
  • Malware removal and incident recovery
  • Large content or catalog entry projects
  • SEO campaigns, advertising or content marketing
  • Server, license or infrastructure fees

Important: Magento maintenance does not mean unlimited development. We confirm the plan scope before work starts. You can request a separate quote when the work falls outside that scope.

Included Work Hours per Month

The monthly fee covers defined maintenance within the included hours below. Work beyond the included hours is billed at the agreed overage rate or handled by upgrading the plan.

Store Starter

Up to 2 hours of included maintenance per month.

Store Growth

Up to 4 hours of included maintenance per month.

Store Premium

Up to 8 hours of included maintenance per month.

Magento Maintenance Plan Levels

Three plan levels cover different store sizes and support needs. Magento stores are complex and high-value, so maintenance is scoped above standard CMS care. Plan names, scope and included hours are defined below. Standard monthly prices are listed; the exact scope is confirmed after a brief store assessment.

Store Starter

$899/mo

  • Security patching and version updates
  • Composer and dependency review
  • Backup and recovery checks
  • Monitoring review
  • Up to 2 included hours / month

Store Growth

$1,499/mo

  • Everything in Starter
  • Basic performance tuning
  • More manual review and support priority
  • Controlled changes and small fixes
  • Up to 4 included hours / month

Store Premium

$2,499/mo

  • Everything in Growth
  • Deeper performance and security work
  • Higher service capacity
  • Proactive store improvement work
  • Up to 8 included hours / month

None of these plan names implies 24/7 support or unlimited development. Work beyond included hours is billed at the agreed overage rate or handled by upgrading the plan.

Why Contract-Accountable Maintenance

Some providers lead with “no contract, cancel anytime.” That convenience usually comes with low accountability: when something goes wrong, there is no agreed standard for who responds, how fast, and to what quality.

We use a clear initial term, monthly renewal, and a defined notice period. That structure is what lets us commit to an SLA, response times, and a party you can hold to account. For a site that matters to your business, accountability is part of the service — not a restriction.

What You Actually Pay For: Real Engineering Hours, Not a Task Queue

Some plans advertise “unlimited small changes (up to 30 minutes each).” That is a capped task queue, not real capacity — and it limits the depth of work that gets done.

Plans advertised as “unlimited”

  • “Unlimited” small changes, each capped at about 30 minutes
  • Updates often pushed straight to the live site
  • Little stated SLA or accountability
  • Hard to tell what is truly included

Our Magento plans

  • Defined monthly engineering hours — 2 hours (Store Starter), 4 hours (Growth), 8 hours (Store Premium)
  • Changes staged and verified before production
  • SLA-backed response and a contract you can reference
  • Transparent overage at $99/hour, or upgrade the plan

You always know what is covered. Work beyond the included hours is billed transparently or handled by moving up a plan — no illusion of “unlimited.”

How Your Included Hours Are Counted

No guesswork and no hidden math. Your included hours cover hands-on engineering time only. Automated updates, backups, monitoring, and scans never draw down your allowance — they run in the background as part of the service.

A credit is a billing unit for the accountable result we deliver — verified, senior-reviewed, and covered by our SLA — not a stopwatch reading. AI lets us complete routine work far faster, and that efficiency is exactly what keeps our rates competitive. It never removes the human judgment or the responsibility behind a change.

Standard task credits

Common requests have a predefined credit, so there is nothing to negotiate after the fact.

Security incidents are handled up to a 2.0 h standard credit; larger recovery work is quoted before we proceed. Credits are tracked in 15-minute increments. As a courtesy, minor changes that take only a few minutes (roughly 10–15 minutes, up to twice a month) are absorbed at no charge — you are not billed a full credit for a one-line fix. Work beyond your included hours is billed at $99/hour or handled by moving up a plan. Each month you receive a simple usage ledger — tasks, credits used, and your remaining balance — alongside your maintenance report.

Silent Failures Are What We Catch

A site that goes down is obvious. The failures that cost the most are the quiet ones. A contact form stops sending. A checkout breaks for one payment method. Pages quietly drop out of search. Speed slips a little every week. Nothing crashes, so nothing shouts — the leads just stop.

That is the failure mode we watch for. Alongside uptime, we monitor the signals that go silent:

Form submissions

We test that your forms still reach their destination, so a broken contact or quote form does not sit unnoticed for weeks.

Checkout and orders

For stores, we watch the order path and flag signs that a payment step has stopped completing.

Search indexing

We check that your pages stay indexed, and that nothing is accidentally blocked from search after a change.

Speed and Core Web Vitals

We track real performance over time and flag gradual decline before it starts costing you conversions.

Detection coverage by quiet failure type Automated detection covers roughly 80 to 90 percent of form, checkout, indexing and speed monitoring. The remaining share — diagnosis and the fix — is done by a person. Contact forms 90% Checkout & orders 80% Search indexing 85% Speed & Core Web Vitals 85% Automated detection Human judgment
Detection runs automatically and continuously. The judgment and the fix are done by a person — and reported to you.

And You Hear About It Every Month

A maintenance plan should not be a silent invoice. Every month you receive a short report: what we updated and checked, what monitoring caught, what we fixed, and how much of your included hours were used. If nothing went wrong, the report still tells you what was verified — so “nothing happened” shows up as visible work, not silence.

You Own Your Site. Always.

Your domain, your hosting account, and your code belong to you. A maintenance provider should never be the only one holding the keys.

Your assets stay in your name

Domain, hosting, and site files remain yours and under your control. We work with your access — we do not take ownership of it.

A clean handover if you leave

If you move on, the agreement sets out how access, files, and credentials are returned. We do not hold your domain, and we do not charge a release fee.

This is written into our agreement, not just promised on a page.

How We Deliver: Staging → Senior Review → Production

We do not blind-push updates to your live site. Routine changes move through staging, a senior review, then production — with SLA-backed response times. This is our standard, not a premium add-on.

Staging first

Updates and changes are verified in a staging environment before they reach visitors.

Senior review

Changes are checked by experienced engineers, not just an automated script.

SLA-backed

Response commitments are defined in the agreement, so expectations are clear.

AI-Assisted, Human-Accountable

We use AI tools to compress routine work, which helps us keep a competitive rate. But accountability for critical and complex changes stays with a human engineer. AI raises the floor — it does not remove responsibility.

Our Maintenance Model Fits You If…

A good fit

  • Your website is tied to revenue — ecommerce, lead generation, or membership
  • You run more than one platform and want one accountable vendor
  • You have been affected by a broken site or a provider that disappeared
  • You want a defined SLA and a party you can hold to account
  • You need changes verified in staging, not pushed blindly to production

Not the best fit

  • Your main priority is the lowest possible price and you accept the risk
  • You run a small single-page brochure site with little traffic
  • You prefer to manage updates and changes yourself
  • You need “unlimited everything” with no scope boundary
  • You are looking for a one-time project (that is a separate scoped engagement)
  • You want service with no contract or commitment at all

Run more than one platform? We can cover your other sites under one contract, billed per site with a multi-site discount — not one price for every platform.

Our Commitments to You

Annual prepay flexibility

If you prepay annually and cancel within 30 days, we refund the unused difference. (Per our stated terms.)

Setup fee protection

If a setup or onboarding fee applies and you cancel before work starts, it is fully refunded within 7 days. (Per our stated terms.)

Is Magento Maintenance Right for Your Store?

Good Fit

  • Magento Open Source or Adobe Commerce stores
  • Stores with recurring patching and performance needs
  • Mid-market and enterprise catalogs
  • Teams that want a clear owner for store engineering

Assessment Required

  • Outdated or unsupported version
  • Heavy custom modules
  • Unknown ownership or missing access
  • Active malware or a current breach
  • Major performance, database or infrastructure problems

Not the Right Starting Point

  • A brand-new store from the ground up
  • A full redesign
  • A one-time migration from another platform
  • Urgent hacked-store cleanup
  • 24/7 on-site staffing

If you only need a redesign, one-time migration, urgent cleanup or hosting only, choose another path: Ecommerce Migration · Redesign · Malware Removal · Emergency Support

About Maizhe Network

What Affects Magento Maintenance Pricing?

Magento pricing is above standard CMS care because of complexity and business impact. The main factors can include:

  • Magento version and edition
  • Number of custom modules
  • Catalog size and traffic
  • Update and compatibility risk
  • Performance and security requirements
  • Integration and infrastructure complexity
  • Support scope and response needs
  • Requested changes and reporting needs

A simpler store may fit a standard plan. A complex store may need an assessment and custom scope. Plan prices are listed above and reflect standard store scopes; this page does not invent price ranges.

Magento Maintenance Services FAQ

What does Magento maintenance include?

Magento maintenance can include version patching, composer and dependency updates, security hardening, performance tuning, backup and recovery checks, monitoring and controlled changes. The final scope depends on the store, version and selected plan.

Do you handle Magento version upgrades?

Version upgrades are a core part of Magento care, but a major version upgrade is a project. Routine patching belongs in maintenance; a full upgrade is scoped separately.

Can you keep a Magento store secure?

We include security hygiene, patching and risk review within the plan. No maintenance service can promise a store will never be attacked. High-value stores should combine maintenance with active monitoring and a response plan.

Do you tune Magento performance?

Yes, within the plan scope. Performance work can include cache, indexing, configuration and code review. Deep profiling or rebuilds may need a separate project scope.

Can a Magento plan include development changes?

A plan may include controlled changes to existing features, configuration and small fixes. New modules, custom features and major work need a separate scope and estimate.

What happens if the store is hacked or down?

Use the emergency or malware-removal path. We first assess the incident. The initial response (assessment, isolation, and stop-loss) is handled within the included hours of your plan; malware removal, full cleanup, and recovery are a separate scope, quoted before we proceed.

How much does Magento maintenance cost?

Standard plans are Store Starter $899/mo, Store Growth $1,499/mo and Store Premium $2,499/mo. Pricing reflects defined monthly maintenance within the included hours for each plan. The exact scope is confirmed after a brief store assessment, and work beyond included hours is billed at the agreed overage rate.

How do I get started?

Send the store URL, Magento version and a short note about current needs. We review the request and discuss the right starting point.

Do you watch the checkout and order path?

Yes, within the plan scope. A broken payment, tax or shipping step often shows up as fewer orders rather than an error message, so we review the order path and flag the signs. Deep work on a payment gateway or tax engine may need a separate scope.

Why are your plans priced higher than some providers?

We are not the lowest-priced option, and we do not compete on the lowest tier. Our price covers real engineering hours, staging-verified changes, an SLA and a contract you can hold us to. If your main priority is the lowest possible price, a budget plan may fit better — we are built for sites where accountability matters.

Do you use AI in your maintenance work?

Yes. We use AI tools to compress routine work so we can keep a competitive rate. For critical and complex changes, a human engineer stays accountable. AI helps us work faster; it does not replace responsibility.

How is multi-platform maintenance priced?

Each site or platform is covered by its own plan, billed per site. If you run more than one property, we can consolidate them under one contract with a multi-site discount. We do not charge one price to cover every platform — each property gets the care its scope needs.

Is Magento 1 still worth maintaining?

No. Magento 1 has received no security fixes since June 2020, so maintaining it is not really an option. We treat Magento 1 as a migration decision: we look at the catalog, the extensions and the order volume, and say plainly whether Magento 2 or a lighter platform is the better destination. If a migration would cost close to a rebuild, we compare both options with you instead of defaulting to one.

How do you decide whether an update is maintenance or a project?

By which layer the work sits in. Applying a security patch inside a supported 2.4.x line is maintenance. Moving to a new 2.4.x line, with its PHP requirement, Composer changes and extension checks, is scoped as a project. A store on Magento 1 or an expired line is a migration. We tell you which layer you are in after the assessment, before any quote.

Do you provide Magento hosting or managed Magento infrastructure?

No. We do maintenance and engineering work, not hosting. We do not sell servers or managed infrastructure, and the phrase "managed Magento" is often used for a hosting product rather than a maintenance service. Your hosting and license fees stay with your own provider and are not part of a maintenance plan.
